Don't shoot for the stars. Space isn't empty.
A deadly laser beam may travel unimaginable distances before striking something, but strike something it will. Maybe a distant civilisation taking its first steps towards the stars, or a moon that sustains a billion lifeforms.
So holster that planet-destroyer of yours before you hurt someone.
